What to do to obtain a business visa

a business-related purpose. Preparation for, and holding negotiations, working on various business plans, analyzing the market. This is a full-fledged business activity;
commercial purpose. Signing agreements, taking part in business meetings, forums, auctions, and trade fairs to make new acquaintances and find partners;
strengthening cultural bonds. This is for artists that tour all over the world to perform for money;
servicing equipment imported to Russia (installation, repair, and maintenance);
visiting Russia as a specific person: a personal driver, a tech or material inspector, a crew or escort member.
For a foreigner to visit Russia on a business visa, the Russian party should prepare an invitation. Visas are only issued if paperwork is done properly. So, to sum it up: for a foreign citizen to be granted a Russian business visa, one needs to specify the purpose of such visit and to make an appropriate invitation.
Business visa types
There are three Russian business visa types:
double-entry (entitles one to enter Russia, leave it and enter again);
multiple-entry business visa entitles the foreign national holder to enter Russia as many times as they might need as long as the visa is valid.
A business visa can be valid for a period of one month to three years for EU citizens and for up to five years for the Americans. For the Georgians, the Turks, the Chinese as well as for other nationalities, the validity period is one month to one year.
Period of stay in Russia might shift. It depends on the date of expiry in the foreigner’s passport. The rule is, the passport shall be valid for at least six months after the visa expires.
Thus, if an foreign national is granted a visa 11 months before the passport expires, the visa will only be valid for six rather than five months. Besides, you should never forget that if you hold a Russian business visa, you can only stay in Russia for up to three months for every six months.
