With more than 34 million inhabitants, People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria is one of Africa’s largest nations.
Today, Russia and Algeria are actively negotiating cooperation in various fields, from politics to tourism. Algeria is not really popular with the Russians as a tourist destination; however, some four thousand Algerians come to Russia annually.
An Algerian citizen must have a visa to cross the Russian border. Note that Algeria is a Migration Risk Category 3 country, meaning that visa documents must be filed with all due attention to avoid denial.
Russian Visa for Algerian Citizens: Paperwork
Depending on the purpose of visit, an Algerian citizen has to choose one of four visa types to enter the Russian Federation:
|Type of Visa||Purpose of visit||Duration of stay in Russia||# of entries|
|Tourist Visa||learning the history, cuisine, and traditions of the country; sightseeing||1 to 30 days||single entry or double entry|
|Business visa||Participation in research conferences, business meetings; concluding business contracts||30 to 90 days (up to 5 years in some cases)||single entry, double entry or multiple entry|
|Private visa||Meeting friends and relatives residing in Russia||30 to 90 days||single entry or double entry|
|Working visa||working for a Russian company||1 to 3 years||multiple entry|
To obtain a Russian visa, an Algerian citizen must file an application with the Russian Embassy in El Biar and submit the following documents:
- a valid passport;
- an application form (available at visa.kdmid.ru) filled in correctly and specifying the purpose of visit, the dates of arrival and departure, as well as the period of stay in Russia;
- a consular fee payment receipt;• a health insurance policy valid over the entire stay in Russia;
- 3.5 x 4.5 photos in color on a light backdrop;
- invitation to Russia from a Russian citizen or legal person.The invitation is the most important document here; its type depends on the purpose of visit. Invitations are provided by the inviting party, be it a natural or a legal person.
How Much does Russian Visa for Algerians cost?
The total cost of a Russian visa for an Algerian citizen is equivalent to the consular fee. The fee itself depends on how many entries the visa must grant.
A single-entry visa costs 70 US dollars; a double-entry costs $112, while a multiple-entry one will set you $210 back. Standard visa procedure takes 4 to 20 business days. Doubling the consular fee (140, 224, or 420 USD) will speed up the process and get you a visa in 1 to 3 days.
Using a Visa Center’s services may carry extra fees.
Important to Know! Consular fees are not refundable upon denial. Caution is recommended when filing the application.
Russian Tourist Visa for Algerian Citizens
When applying for a tourist visa, an Algerian citizen must supplement the standard documentation set with a tourist invitation. This can be provided by any agency registered in the Federal Register of Tour Operators and assigned a special ID.
What is a tourist invitation?
It usually consists of a tourist voucher and a confirmation of reception. It is printed on the letterhead of the travel agency.
The form must provide:
- Name of the agency;
- Legal address;
- Passport details of the foreign citizen;
- Detailed itinerary (which Russian cities the Algerian is going to visit and where they are going to stay).
The form also specifies the number of entries and the duration of visa.
Important to Know! After the visa documents are filed, the embassy will thoroughly check everything. Finding out that the applicant violated the Russian laws and was deported in the past guarantees denial. Shall no negative facts be revealed, the applicant will be granted a tourist visa for up to 30 days.
Russian Private Visa for Algerian Citizens
An Algerian citizen will need a private visa to go to Russia to visit their relatives or friends residing in the country. Aside from the standard documentation set, this application requires a certificate of HIV-negative status as well as a private invitation.
What is a private invitation?
The inviting Russian party must apply with their local GAMI MIA office to request a private invitation for a specific Algerian citizen. The request must be submitted with the following documents:
- A copy of the invitee’s passport;
- inviting party’s Statement of Income;
- a letter of guarantee, in which the Russian citizen obliges themselves to cover the costs of the foreign citizen’s stay in the country;
- receipt of payment of the 800-ruble state fee.
The application for private invitation takes 1 month to process.
Important to Know! Since Algeria is a high migration risk country, the inviting party will have to talk with a GAMI officer. The Russian citizen will have to explain why the Algerian tourist has to come to Russia.
If there are no reasons for denial, a private invitation of a state-approved format will be issued to the inviting party, which can then be sent to the Algerian by international delivery services.
Note that for Algerians, like for most foreign tourists, a tourist visa is a more practical way to legalize entry on private visits.
Russian Business Visa for Algerian Citizens
A business visa is issuable for handling business matters in the Russian Federation. A business visa requires a business invitation. The invitation can be obtained and sent by the Russian inviting party.
What is a business invitation?
There are three types of Russian business visa invitations:
|A letter from an entity||Issuable on the letterheads of AFMS-approved entities||1 day|
|AFMS form||issuable on the government-approved forms upon the inviting party’s request||up to 17 business days|
|MFA Telex||an ID sent from the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the Embassy.||This is merely a number the applicant must specify when applying for a visa at an embassy|
Important to Know! In addition to the standard documentation set, getting a Russian business visa for more than 90 days requires the Algerians to provide a certificate of HIV-negative status.
Russian Working Visa for Algerian Citizens
A working visa can be obtained by an Algerian citizen much faster if they already have an employer in the Russian Federation. In most cases, such a visa is valid for 1 years; highly skilled workers can obtain 3-year visas. A foreign citizen can enter Russian Federation as many times as they need while the visa is valid.
The Russian employer must have a permission to employ foreign citizens. They further must obtain a work permit for that particular Algerian citizen and provide them with an invitation to work. The whole paperwork takes about 1.5 months.
The standard documentation set must be supplemented with criminal records, certificates of no arrears, and a certificate of HIV-negative status. These documents are valid for 30 days.
The biggest advantage of an working visa is that its holder does not have to leave Russia to extend their visa. Every year, it is extended for an additional year. The employer must make sure that the employee does not violate the Russian laws; the latter namely has to register with the immigration office and extend the visa in time.
Important to Know! Invitations to work are not purchasable! Those are only issued by the actual employers.
If an Algerian citizen wants to work in Russia but does not have a Russian employer, they may use a tourist visa to come to the country for job interviews.
